Prep Roundup: Big seventh inning lifts Wheeler past Marietta

Oct. 4—Wheeler scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to cap off a comeback 9-5 victory over Marietta on Monday.

Nia Humphery pitched a complete game and gave up three earned runs to earn the win. Maddie Massey was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Jade Batichon went 2-for-3.

Wheeler (6-14) was set to host Kennesaw Mountain on Tuesday in Region 5AAAAAAA play.

Mount Paran Christian 17, Therrell 0 (3 inn.): Katie Cunane and Malayna Tamborra combined for nine strikeouts, only giving up one hit between them.

From the plate, Tamborra had three hits, including a home run. Ruby Collins was 3-for-3 with a triple, Avery Hudson went 3-for-3, Marian Collins went 2-for-2 with a double, Shelby Brown went 2-for-3 with a home run, and Shayna Suttles also added a home run.

Mount Paran (22-4, 12-0 Region 6AA) was set to travel to Washington on Tuesday.

Kell 4, Riverwood 2: Julia Hendrick picked up the win, pitching four innings of one-run ball, while striking out two in the Region 6AAAAA matchup.

Brooke Smith went 3-for-3, with an RBI and a stolen base, Cassidy Dicus went 1-for-3 with a double and a RBI, and Quinn Overbay went 1-for-2 with a RBI and a stolen base.

Kell (17-7, 9-3) will host Kennesaw Mountain on Wednesday.
