Prep report: Schultz throws 3 TD passes as Northwood/Solon Springs wins at home

Sep. 25—MINONG, Wis. — Northwood/Solon Springs football raised its record above the .500 mark for the first time this season with a 39-16 home win over Birchwood/Winter on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Jared Schultz threw three touchdown passes for the hosts, while Cade Lisson and Landon Micken scored two touchdowns apiece.

Northwood/Solon Springs (3-2) stays home for a game against Phillips on Friday.

Hudston Snesrud scored twice as the Lumberjacks took down the Tigers. Jordan Aultman and Max Sundquist finished with a goal and assist apiece.

Lucas Rauner made 11 saves for a clean sheet for CEC.

A first-half penalty kick from Grady Downs held up for a victory for the Greyhounds, who have won three games in a row, all by shutout.

John Meyer (five) and Jack Ringsred (seven) combined on the clean sheet for East.

Ian Andersen and Andres Ortiz scored for the Thunderhawks in the first half for a Lake Superior Conference road win.

Denzel Majwega scored for the Hilltoppers.

Alyssa Doyle bagged a hat trick as the Hunters won their fourth consecutive road game.

Cayley Larsen made two saves for Denfeld.

Addison Hieb scored in the first minute for the Rails and Kelsey Tangen made it a 2-1 lead in the 19th minute, but Spectrum's Sophia Brenteson scored a last-minute equalizer and Maggie Novotny won it with a goal in overtime.

Payton Walters made 12 saves for the Rails.

Lake of the Woods knocked off the host Greyhounds to win the 12-team, three-state Duluth East Invitational on Saturday.

Three of the four semifinalists were from the Northland, with Cloquet defeating Superior 2-1 (23-25, 25-19, 16-14) in a tightly contested match for third place.

The Greyhounds defeated the Lumberjacks 2-1 (16-25, 25-17, 17-15) in a similarly taut semifinal.

Northwestern finished fifth in a 12-team field in its home invitational on Saturday. After going 1-1 in morning pool play, the Tigers defeated Solon Springs 2-0 (25-8, 25-11) in the silver division semifinals, then beat Spooner 2-0 (25-20, 25-16) for fifth place.

Solon Springs finished eighth, going 1-3 for the day.

Baldwin-Woodville defeated Turtle Lake for the championship.

Floodwood took one win from five matches at the Class A Showcase at New Prague on Saturday, but did make a new mark in the record books.

The Polar Bears' Kylie Hart became the school's all time assist leader during a 2-0 loss to 2021 state runner-up and 2018 and 2019 champion Minneota. Hart passed Imijyn Thompson.
