Prep Notebook: Class A All-State squad would not have been complete without DM 71

It was last Tuesday when the All-State selections for Montana High School football started coming out.

(By the way, we still haven't received all of the All-State and All-Conference selections. Please email them to tribsports@greatfallstribune.com. Thanks.)

I have to say that I was not the least bit surprised to see one name in particular on the Class A All-State team, but on the Eastern A All-Conference team as well.

And I'm sure this young man is smiling down on his selection as well.

In the past month and a half, Dylan Morris has been recognized and remembered as the charismatic and emotional leader of Lewistown's Fergus High School Golden Eagles. His 6-foot, 300-pound frame was hard not to notice, especially when he would stand up on a bench on the sidelines and wave to the crowd, encouraging Golden Eagle boosters to stand up and cheer.

Needless to say, he was never ignored.

On Oct. 17, with Fergus coming off the heels of a very emotional victory over Billings Central — the school's first win over the Rams in 35 years — Dylan Morris was traveling on Trout Creek Road heading toward his home in Moore when the Fergus High School senior failed to negotiate a turn onto Sipple Road.

His Subaru left the highway, striking an embankment and rolling over onto the driver's side.

Dylan died at the scene, just 17 years old.

Last week, Dylan Joseph Morris was remembered again, posthumously selected to the Eastern A All-Conference Team, both on the offensive and defensive lines, and then selected as an offensive lineman to the Class A All-State team.

He joined his teammates Luke Clinton, Gage Norslien, Chance Fields, Jett Boyce, Matthew Golik and Kyler Fleming on the All-State honors squad.

Honestly, I don't think those All-League and All-State teams would have been complete without DM71.

And I don't think these kids, who played in the shadow of Spring Creek, will ever forget him.
