Prep Basketball: Oak Hills opens the CIF-SS Div. 2AA playoffs with a thrilling victory over Campbell Hall

Kenneth Brown just missed out on a triple-double Wednesday night as the Oak Hills boys basketball team pulled a thrilling victory in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 2AA playoffs.

Brown helped the team to a 77-76 victory over Campbell Hall, the No. 6 team in the division, at home by filling up the stat sheet with 14 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.

But despite pulling off the victory, it got a bit scary for the Bulldogs down the stretch. Oak Hills led by seven points with about a minute left to play.

Campbell Hall’s Aaron Powell hit back-to-back three-pointers to pull within a point.

Oak Hills head coach Robert Alexander joked he might have a few extra gray hairs following the victory.

“It’s a great victory,” Alexander said. “As they say, survive and advance. Campbell Hall was the No. 6 team in our division. This is a huge win for the program.”

Alexander praised his team’s balanced attack in the victory. Brown was one of four players that scored in double figures.

Ahmed Kaoud scored a team-high 18 points and snagged seven rebounds in the victory, Isaiah Sharkey added 14 and seven rebounds, and Marquell Harriel chipped in 12 points.

Both Monsour and Vieux Sanneh also scored eight points apiece.

Oak Hills is back in action in the second round and on the road in Riverside against Martin Luther King High School. King beat Capistrano Valley 81-77 in double overtime.

Both have 18 victories on the season. Oak Hills has won 11 of its last 12 games, while King is on a three-game winning streak.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
