Power outages reported across Southwest Florida after tornado hits Fort Myers area

Severe weather and a tornado confirmed by The National Weather Service moved through Southwest Florida early Sunday morning, leaving behind power outages and storm damage.

Power outages

Florida Power & Light reported 2,946 customers were without electric power in Lee County, 30 in Collier County, and 80 in Charlotte County, as of 7 p.m. Sunday.

Power outages were also reported in parts of Lehigh Acres, Cape Coral, Pine Island, and in areas served by the Lee County Electric Cooperative.

A total of 38 LCEC customers were reported to be without power, as of 7 p.m. Sunday.

The most affected areas were reported in northeast Cape Coral, in Pine Island, and in Bokeelia, on the northern end of the island.

Storm damage

A tornado reportedly touched down in the Iona area just before 8 a.m. Sunday, according to The National Weather Service. Downed trees and damages to homes have been reported in the area.
