Powell star QB Jordyn Potts suffers apparent injury in Week 1 loss to Anderson County

The quarterback who guided Powell football to its first state championship suffered an apparent injury Friday night.

Jordyn Potts went down in the first quarter of the Panthers' 48-14 loss at Anderson County to open the Tennessee high school football season.

Potts, a Tennessee Tech commitment, was dropping back on third down when two Anderson County defenders came through. Anderson County linebacker Eli Davis hit Potts and landed on top of him.

The quarterback sat down momentarily before sitting up and holding his right shoulder area.

Potts re-entered the game on Powell's next drive. He threw one pass, left the game and did not return. In the second half, Potts was seen on the sideline not wearing his shoulder pads.

Powell coach Matt Lowe declined comment on Potts' status after the game.

Potts was replaced by Dylan Stooksbury, who threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Ayden Greene in the third quarter.

Potts led Powell to the Class 5A state championship last season, passing for 324 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-34 win over Page.
