Potawatomi Business Development Corp. expanding to downtown's 833 East tower.

The company which runs non-casino businesses for the Forest County Potawatomi Community tribe is expanding its operations to a downtown Milwaukee office tower.

Potawatomi Business Development Corp. has signed a new lease for 18,357 square feet at the 833 East building, 833 E. Michigan St. Around 40 employees will be based there starting in mid-February.

The new space will accommodate the growth of PBDC subsidiary companies. PBDC employs more than 1,000 people nationwide and is the economic development and income diversification unit for the tribe, which operates Potawatomi Hotel and Casino, 1721 W. Canal St.

PBDC is now based at the Bgemagen Building, 3215 W. State St. That building is part of Wgema Campus, PBDC's redevelopment of the former Concordia University-Wisconsin campus on Milwaukee's near west side.

PBDC will keep an office at the Bgemagen Building, where it has been headquartered since 2011. Those operations include Greenfire Management Services LLC, which provides construction management services.

The space at 833 East will house PBDC’s new real estate group, Sagewind Development; PBDC’s retail operations that include the development of travel centers throughout Wisconsin, and the company’s electric vehicle business unit.

“This office expansion prepares us for expected growth among several of our subsidiary companies, while also representing a significant milestone for our company and our owners, the Forest County Potawatomi Community, as it coincides with our 20th anniversary,” said Randy Mueller, PBDC Chief Executive Officer, in a statement.

“We are excited to establish a strong presence in Milwaukee’s central business district as it further demonstrates our commitment and dedication to being an active and engaged part of the community," Mueller said.

PBDC launched Sagewind Development to focus on developments in southeastern Wisconsin and to leverage opportunities among other subsidiaries. The company is led by Andy Wiegman, a 20-year veteran of the commercial real estate industry.

PBDC Retail is led by David Lloveras, who previously spent more than 30 years in the convenience store and retail industry. It operates travel centers in Crandon and Carter, Wisconsin, and is finalizing a prototype for future stores along high traffic corridors around the state.

The EV business unit was launched last summer, and is led by Dan Montague, PBDC strategy director. It is focused on providing installation, maintenance and field services for EV charging stations.

833 East is an 18-story, 358,000-square-foot building and is anchored by the Godfrey & Kahn law firm. It is operated by Irgens Partners LLC.

“Having PBDC join the tenant roster at 833 East brings us a high-quality occupier which further enhances our project,” said Mark Irgens, chief executive officer.
