Senator Kamala Harris made history when she was selected by 2020 presidential hopeful Joe Biden as his VP pick. Here's a look at Sen. Harris' past political resume -- and her current net worth.

This month, the 2020 presidential hopefuls participated in the fourth Democratic debate.

The debate focused on a range of pressing social, cultural and economic issues -- including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's impeachment inquiry against Donald Trump.

While all of the candidates stood their ground on their respective campaign platforms, one candidate, in particular, gained notoriety as one of the stronger debaters of the night. Senator Kamala Harris, who if elected president will make history as the first African American woman to ever hold office, was the first candidate to bring up the issue of abortion access during any debate.

The California senator has a long history of championing for the rights of marginalized groups. Harris declared her candidacy in January this year, and in just 24 hours after announcing her campaign, raised over $1 million.

Sen. Harris is also part of the group of candidates to willingly released their tax returns. In fact, she released her last 15 years of returns. According to the documents, Harris reported an income of about $157K in 2018 from her role as senator and about $320K net income from her writing.

According to Forbes, Harris' estimated net worth, in combination with her husband's, is about $6 million.

A bulk of the couple's assets stem from their homes in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington D.C. and their retirement accounts which are worth at least $1.4 million. They also have two capital accounts valued at around $1 million.

Of the 12 candidates still in the running to become the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee, Harris is the fourth-richest contender.
