It's a marked difference from early voting, in which you can make use of any of the county's early voting precincts. Randolph County precincts are determined at the state level, according to Randolph County's Election Director Melissa Johnson. Usually they are determined by the geographical location of ones household but that isn't always a sure thing. There can be instances in which neighbors are assigned different precincts to cast their ballots.

When a voter registers they are given information about their designated precinct. Johnson said voters can access that information in any number of ways.

"A lot of people ask for a sample ballot," Johnson said, adding that precinct information can be found on sample ballots. "When people register to vote, we send them a registration card that has all of their precinct information on it."

She also said there are online resources, mainly the state voter lookup.

"They have a voter lookup on the State Board of Elections website and we link to that," Johnson said.

If, for whatever reason, a prospective voter goes to the wrong precinct, a precinct worker should be able to direct them to the correct location. There are options for those who find the!selves unable to make it to the correct precinct.

"Sometimes voters don't want to go somewhere else, they might not have time or if it's the end of the day," Johnson said. "At some point there are voters that will vote out of precinct."

Out of precinct, or provisional voting, is when a voter casts a ballot at the incorrect precinct using a provisional ballot. Provisional ballots are reviewed by the board of elections.

"We can decide, based on their approval if the whole ballot will count or...it !ight be part of the ballot that counts."

Johnson said despite the redistricting controversy in the state, she is confident Randolph Counry voters will be able to determine their designated precinct with little difficulty.

"The polling places haven't changed so we don't anticipate any issues," Johnson said.

"We do encourage people to go to the correct pollling place."
