A male pedestrian suffered "significant injuries" in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning on Hibiscus Boulevard in Melbourne, police said.

A four-door 2020 Chevrolet Spark hatchback was heading west on Hibiscus Boulevard when it hit the pedestrian just east of the intersection of Hibiscus Boulevard and Evans Road about 1:52 a.m. Sunday morning, Melbourne police said.

The vehicle fled toward Evans Road before police arrived at the scene. As of Tuesday afternoon, the driver and vehicle had not been located.

Police said the vehicle likely sustained significant damage to the front driver's side area. It also likely sustained damage on the front windshield over the driver's side. The color of the vehicle was believed to be black, as police located a black mirror from the driver's side door following the crash. They did not specify where they located the mirror.

Police did not provide identifying details about the pedestrian and did not specify the extent of his injuries other than to say they were "significant."
