Police involved shooting in Randolph County leads to one injury

At least one person was injured in an officer-involved shooting on Cable Creek Road in Asheboro.

Randolph County Sheriff's Office confirmed, Wednesday evening, that a routine welfare check turned violent.

"Upon arrival, a male subject exited the residence with a firearm and then retreated into the residence," reads information provided by the Sheriff's Office.

The suspect fled, according to officer accounts, from the back of the residence while additional officers were en route.

"A perimeter was established and residents within a mile radius were alerted by Randolph Communication’s community notification system that the Sheriff’s Office was searching for an armed subject in the area, giving a description and warning to use caution," reads information provided by the Sheriff's Office.

After an hour, Officers say they confronted the suspect when attempting to return to the residence.

"Shots were fired and the subject was wounded," according to the Sheriff's Office. "Deputies immediately rendered aid and continued while Fire and EMS were responding. Randolph County EMS transported [the suspect] to an area hospital for treatment."

Officials alerted North Carolina's State Bureau of Investigations which is leading the investigation.
