Phoenix police identified the child who was killed in a central Phoenix car crash on Tuesday.

The child was identified by police on Wednesday as Shala Zamora, 9.

On Tuesday around 9:05 a.m., Phoenix police officers responded to a severe vehicle collision near Seventh Street and Thomas Road, officials said.

When officers arrived on scene, they found two vehicles that were involved, according to a statement from Phoenix police spokesperson Sgt. Phil Krynsky.

Officers learned from witness statements that one of the vehicles was driving eastbound when it swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle and collided with another heading westbound.

The westbound vehicle contained a man and two child passengers who were taken to a hospital. One of the children was pronounced dead from their injuries, police said.

Police said the man and the child, who were not identified, were expected to survive.

The eastbound vehicle's driver sustained no serious injuries, and a child passenger was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, authorities said.

Police said that no arrests have been made, but they suspect that speed and impairment could be possible factors in the crash. The investigation was ongoing.
