Police foil potential mass shooting in Hollywood apartment

Los Angeles police thwarted a potential mass shooting this week after investigating threats a man made to his neighbors.

According to KTLA, several neighbors reported 24-year-old Braxton Johnson threatened them outside the Lumina Hollywood, a 22-story apartment complex on Tuesday.

Executing a search warrant, officers allegedly found several high-powered rifles, shotguns, handguns, body armor and a “large cache of various munitions” in a unit on the 18th floor.

Investigators believe Johnson was in the planning stages of a mass shooting.

“The suspect was located on the 18th floor of an apartment building with large windows with a view, with a non-obstructed view of a public park ... and some of the rifles were pointed outside of the windows,” LAPD Lt. Leon Tsap said.

Johnson had recently moved to the city, according to investigators.

Braxton has been charged with two counts of possession of an assault weapon, one count of criminal threats and one count of solicitation of murder. He is being held on $500,000 bail.

“Los Angeles County is still reeling over the tragic mass shooting in Monterey Park,” L.A. County District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement. “Were it not for the brave actions of the witnesses in this case, this could have also been an incredible tragedy.”
