Police: 78-year-old Longmont man dies after Saturday car-versus-bike crash

Sep. 18—Longmont police say a 78-year-old bicyclist has died from injuries he suffered Saturday morning in a car-versus-bike crash.

A Longmont Police Department news release said that the crash occurred around 8 a.m. on Clover Basin Drive between Renaissance Drive and Delsarto Lane.

Police said the motorist and bicyclist, who was riding a recumbent bicycle, were both traveling eastbound on Clover Basin Drive when the crash occurred. The bicyclist was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The 25-year-old driver of the car remained on scene after the crash. Both the cyclist and driver are from Longmont.

Longmont police said the crash is being investigated, and that "any updates will not be immediately available until all factors can be reviewed and considered." Police said any witnesses or people with video cameras near the location are asked to contact traffic investigator Greg Noyes at 303-774-4458.

Additional information about the cyclist will not be available until the Boulder County Corner's Office completes its investigation and notifies family, police said.
