Plenty of wins for local teams on Tuesday

The White Pigeon girls improved to 9-8 on the season with a 59-29 victory over Bangor on Tuesday.

“We played great defensively and executed offensively,” White Pigeon coach Brooke McClure said. “We played great team basketball tonight.”

White Pigeon raced out to an 18-2 advantage after one quarter of play. The lead ballooned to 32-9 at halftime.In the second half, White Pigeon still was able to put up more points than Bangor, out-scoring them 27-20.

Bailee Freedline led the Chiefs with 17 points and seven assists. Sydney McClure tossed in 11 points, both Sadie McDaniel and Leigha Shudell scored seven points. Shudell grabbed eight rebounds.

Scoring five points were Shelby McDaniel and Jamielynn Delarye. Dani Steel put in four points, Amyia Wright added three points with eight rebounds.

Centreville wins a pair

The Centreville girls beat Comstock 66-25 on Tuesday and Hartford on Monday, 47-27.

In Tuesday’s win, Faith Edwards poured in 35 points. She scored in all four quarters and paced the Bulldogs to the big win.

Centreville led 27-15 at halftime, then erupted for 27 points in the third, plus added a dozen in the fourth.

“The girls played hard tonight in a physical game and I’m proud of their effort,” Centreville coach Jill Peterson said. “We’ve played four of our last five games on the road and are excited to be back home on Thursday.”

Edwards added 12 rebounds with five assists and five steals.

Kendalynn Bernheisel scored 12 points, Hailey Miller added nine points with six rebounds, five steals and three assists. Drew Alexander put in four points while Emmy Pritchard, Abbe Wherrett and Jessica Wickey each put in two points.

On Monday, Centreville beat Hartford 47-27.

“We were shorthanded today, but we handled it extremely well,” Peterson said. “We had some people step up and that is what you need when your roster is slim. I’m proud of the girls for their efforts tonight.”

Edwards had a big game here as well with 25 points, 13 rebounds, seven steals and five assists.

Miller scored 11 points while Bernheisel added four points. Berkley Shingledecker, Wherrett and Alexander all scored two points and Wickey made a free throw.

Colon beats Tekonsha

The Colons girls beat Tekonsha on Tuesday, 62-14. The Lady Magi posted 24 points in the first quarter and 16 more in the second. They led at halftime, 40-6. Colon would out-score Tekonsha 15-5 in the third and 7-3 in the fourth.

Reese Williams put in 22 points with 10 steals in the game. She now sits just six points away from reaching the 1,000-point mark for her career. Megann Mullins scored 13 points with five steals, Andi Borgert and Allison Vinson each scored seven points.

Savannah Meyers tossed in four points, Ruby Bower scored three. Tatum Cline, Liv Johnson and Kelsey Burgess all scored two points. Raegan Thaxton grabbed seven rebounds.

Marcellus beats Hartford

The Marcellus girls beat Hartford on Tuesday, 51-38.

In the victory, Brooklyn VanTilburg had a big game with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Clare Flory tossed in eight points while Addie Curtis and Ladora BetSargis both scored seven points. Sophia Affriseo put in five points, Talan Hiemstra added three and Olivia Hicks connected for a free throw.

Three Rivers beats Dowagiac

The Three Rivers girls beat Dowagiac 55-30 on Tuesday.

In the win, the Lady Wildcats got 24 points from Dani Glass. Jennaya Decker added 12 points and Gabby Charvat tossed in 11.

Mendon falls to Bloomingdale

The Mendon girls lost 57-46 to Bloomingdale on Tuesday evening.

Makennah Mullin led the Lady Hornets with 13 points, adding 10 rebounds. Keyara Szymanski added 10 points with five rebounds, Cienna Nightingale scored nine points with eight rebounds. Jadyn Samson connected for eight points with four assists and four steals.

Jenna Scheffler added four points with two rebounds, Brianna Heitkamp scored two points with five rebounds. Presley Allen brought in two rebounds with two assists and two blocks, Lila Schinker grabbed four rebounds.

Mendon is now 13-3.

Bronson drops close one

The Bronson girls fell 59-52 on the road at Adrian Lenawee Christian on Tuesday.

Bronson now sits at 14-2 on the season.

In Tuesday’s defeat, Haylie Wilson led the Vikings with 21 points. Brealyn Lasky threw in 14 points, including knocking down three triples. Aubree Calloway scored 10 points as well with four blocked shots.

Ava Hathaway scored three points, Helena Eley scored two points with six rebounds. Payton Springstead added two points as well.

Berrien Springs beats Constantine

The Constantine girls dropped a 46-38 decision to Berrien Springs on Tuesday.

The Lady Falcons were led by Olivia Herlein’s 14 points with five rebounds, Jaedyn Herlein added eight points with four rebounds and five steals. Lilly Hofmeister also scored eight points while Jenny Clewell added five points, Bella Cullifer scored three points with four rebounds.

Litchfield tops Burr Oak

The Litchfield girls beat Burr Oak 38-33 on Tuesday night.

Braylyn Hernandez led the Lady Bobcats with 20 points with four steals, Saryia Cornejo added five points with eight rebounds. Elaine Holtom scored four points with three steals, Aubrey Perry added two points with five rebounds. Isabella Boyd scored two points as well while Makaila Whittington grabbed five rebounds, Brooklynn Root grabbed three rebounds as well.
