Plastic surgeon accused of attempting to murder colleague in stabbing attack
A plastic surgeon has been charged with attempting to murder a "highly regarded" colleague in a stabbing incident near Southwell, Nottinghamshire.
In addition to facing murder charges, Jonathan Peter Brooks, 56, has also been charged with three counts of attempted arson with intent to endanger life and possession of a knife in a public space, according to Nottinghamshire Police.
His alleged victim, 65-year-old Graeme Perks, a celebrated plastic surgeon, was injured after an intruder broke into his house in Halam Hill, Halam, just before 4.15am on 14 January.
Mr Perks, who has held leadership roles within the NHS and previously served as president of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (Bapras), suffered puncture wounds to his abdomen and chest during the break-in.
The plastic surgeon is still receiving care at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he is in serious, but stable condition.
In a statement, Detective Inspector Gayle Hart, who is leading the investigation into the incident, said police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the probe.
“The victim is still in the intensive care unit,” he said. “Our thoughts are with his family at this time.”
“If anyone has any information in relation to this case we would urge them to still contact us," he added.
