Davies gave up five runs (four earned) in 3 2/3 innings against the Royals on Monday, exiting the game after taking a comebacker off his right shin. There was some question as to whether he would make this start but manager Torey Lovullo said Davies felt fine in his between-starts bullpen and was good to go. … He pitched at Dodger Stadium earlier this month, giving up five runs in four innings. … He has averaged 89.2 mph with his fastball and 79.3 mph with his change-up. … Anderson fired eight shutout innings against the Nationals in his most recent start. Before that, he faced the Diamondbacks on May 17, holding them to two runs in seven innings. … Anderson has logged 43 2/3 innings this season, walking only five while striking out 42. … He has leaned more on his change-up this season than he has in the past, throwing the pitch 32.1 percent of the time, more than any other in his arsenal.

Kelly allowed three runs in five innings against the Cubs on Sunday at Wrigley Field, an outing in which he was hurt by a popup that dropped on the infield. … He struggled against the Dodgers when he faced them last week at Dodger Stadium, giving up eight runs in two innings. Pitching coach Brent Strom said he thought Kelly might have been tipping pitches, adding that Kelly had made tweaks to his delivery to prevent it from happening again. … Gonsolin has been among the best pitchers in the National League this season. He hasn’t allowed more than two runs in a start. The Diamondbacks, though, have been the most successful team against him, scoring five runs (four earned) in 10 innings. … Last time out, Gonsolin struck out seven, walked one, gave up three hits and allowed just one run in six innings against the Phillies. … Gonsolin mostly throws a four-seamer, splitter and slider while also mixing in the occasional curveball.

Bumgarner gave up four runs in seven innings against the Cubs on Saturday at Wrigley Field. He struggled early, allowing back-to-back homers in the second and two more runs in the third, but eventually settled into the game. His seven strikeouts were a season-high. … After posting a 1.17 ERA in April, Bumgarner has a 4.66 ERA in May. However, he’s striking out more batters and walking fewer in May. … On May 16 in Los Angeles, Bumgarner allowed three runs in five innings in a 5-4 loss. …Pepiot has not been officially announced as the Dodgers starter, but he is with the team in Phoenix and is viewed as the most likely option, with a bullpen game being another possibility. … The Diamondbacks faced Pepiot at Dodger Stadium on May 17 in what was his second career start. He allowed three runs on two hits and three walks in four innings, striking out five. … Walks were an issue in his first start, as well, when he walked five vs. the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

Dodgers update: After sweeping the Diamondbacks in four games at Dodger Stadium last week, the Dodgers proceeded to take two of three in Philadelphia and entered Wednesday with a chance at a three-game sweep over the Nationals in Washington. At 29-13, they are a half-game behind the Yankees (30-13) for the best record in baseball. Their offense leads the league with 5.62 runs per game and their pitching has the lowest ERA at 2.76. RF Mookie Betts has been red hot over the past 12 games, going 20 for 49 (.408) with seven doubles and seven home runs. 1B/3B Edwin Rios has begun to get more playing time; he is 4 for 18 (.222) with two homers and two walks in his past four starts. 2B/3B Max Muncy remains in a rut at the plate. He is hitting just .154, though thanks to 33 walks he owns a solid .329 on-base. RHP Tony Gonsolin has thrown well recently, logging a 1.64 ERA in his past four starts. RHP Evan Phillips has pitched well in relief, firing seven innings without allowing an earned run this month.
