Piers Morgan walked off Good Morning Britain today (March 9) after Alex Beresford took him to task over his treatment of Meghan Markle.

The presenter has been openly critical of the Duchess of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry, who recently gave a big interview to Oprah Winfrey that aired on CBS in the US and on ITV in the UK.

On Tuesday morning, co-star Alex debated the matter with Piers, following a previous fiery Twitter exchange between them leading up to the interview.

And their latest encounter led to Piers actually walking off the set.

Explaining his problem with Piers' comments about the Duchess, Alex said: "I understand that you don't like Meghan Markle.

"You've made it clear a number of times on this programme, a number of times, and I understand that you've got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or that you had one and she cut you off.

"She's entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don't think she has, but yet you continue to trash her."

"OK, I'm done with this," Piers said in reply, before getting up from his chair and walking off set.

“You can trash me, mate, but not on my own show. See you later. Sorry. Can't do this."

Following his exit, Alex said: "You know what, that’s pathetic. This is absolutely diabolical behaviour. I'm sorry, but Piers spouts off on a regular basis and we all have to sit there and listen.

"6.30 to 7 o'clock yesterday was incredibly hard to watch – incredibly hard to watch. He has the ability to come in here and talk from a position where he doesn't fully understand."

Piers eventually returned to the set, telling his colleague: "Let's just not make it personal. Let's stop talking about me and you."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV.
