Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed his mother is suffering from "health issues", explaining his recent absence for the Gunners.

Aubameyang was left out by Mikel Arteta from the 1-0 FA Cup defeat at Southampton on Saturday and did not return midweek for the the 3-1 Premier League victory over Saints three days later.

The Gunners have reached out to the Gabonese striker since, with Arteta dedicating Tuesday's win to his talisman, while his teammates have all sent messages of support, including in their goal celebrations at St Mary’s.

Aubameyang had travelled with the squad for the game on Saturday before leaving just hours before kick-off and he revealed on Wednesday afternoon that he had been supporting his mother.
