PHOTOS: Kilgore's Oktoberfest brings fall fun to all

Oct. 20—Steins were hoisted, chicken dances were danced and fun was had by all at Kilgore's Oktoberfest Saturday. Hundreds of attendees came to downtown Kilgore for the annual event, inspired by the original Oktoberfest founded in Munich, Germany. Many sported traditional dirndls or lederhosen as they visited local vendor booths to peruse food, soaps, candles, home decor and more. Kilgore City Manager Josh Selleck exhorted attendees to sing "Ein Prosit, Ein Prosit, der Gemütlichkeit" (roughly translated: A toast, a toast, to cheer and good times) as the beer tent filled with folks sipping cold beer and enjoying schnitzel and pretzels alongside their barbecue. Mitch and Casey Moehring, of downtown's Mitch Moehring Strings, tapped the ceremonial keg and local oom-pah band Bier Nutz played traditional German tunes as attendees competed in a chicken dance competition and stein holding competition. The event featured live dance performances and live music throughout the day.
