Philip Sellinger, a Morristown attorney and well-known Democratic fundraiser, was sworn into office as the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey on Thursday, after he was unanimously confirmed by the Senate to serve in the post earlier this month.

"Phil has demonstrated a commitment to upholding the rule of law and a dedication to pursuing equal justice under law,” Sen. Cory Booker said in a statement.

Sellinger, 67, is a member of the party's state committee and served as a delegate for the president at the 2020 Democratic National Convention.

Biden nominated Sellinger in October, saying he chose the attorney because of his "dedication to pursuing equal justice for all" and his "commitment to the independence of the Department of Justice."

Rachael Honig has led the office as acting U.S. attorney since her predecessor, Craig Carpenito, a Trump appointee, stepped down in January.

"Mr. Sellinger’s tenacity, intellect, and commitment to justice will make him an excellent U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey," Sen. Robert Menendez said in his own statement.

This will not be trial by fire for Sellinger, who worked as an assistant U.S. attorney in New Jersey from 1981 to 1984.
