Phase 2 of Minnesota Highway 40 culvert replacement project begins Monday

May 9—WILLMAR — The second phase of a culvert and bridge replacement project on state Highway 40 west of Willmar begins Monday.

The project, which includes replacing two metal culverts and an old timber bridge with concrete box culverts in Kandiyohi and Chippewa counties, is being done to improve drainage and preserve the roadway.

During the first stage, a culvert west of Kandiyohi County Road 7 and an old timber bridge west of Chippewa County Road 3 were replaced. The road at each location will be paved Monday and Tuesday. Traffic will be detoured to Highway 29, Swift County Road 6, U.S. Highway 12 and Kandiyohi County Road 7 until May 12, weather permitting.

During the second stage, the culvert east of state Highway 29 will be replaced and a phase two detour will be in place following Highway 29, Chippewa County Road 13 and Chippewa County Road 6. This detour is expected to be in place May 12 and will continue until the project is completed, which is anticipated to be May 21.

Riley Brothers Construction of Morris is the contractor for the $1.3 million project.
