A Petersburg resident wins $300,000 top prize on Lucky Day Lotto

A Petersburg resident won the $300,000 top prize on Lucky Day Lotto during the March 9 midday drawing.

The winning ticket was sold at Ayerco, 302 N. Sixth St., Petersburg. It matched all five numbers – 4, 14, 15, 16, 22 – to win the grand prize, according to a press release from the Illinois Lottery.

The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, is known to store workers.

"The winner is a pretty nice person. I know them from coming in," said Carol Winter, the cashier who sold the winning lottery ticket.

The winner called the store and came in to thank employees.

This is not the store's first time selling a winning ticket. The store sold a $1 million Halloween ticket a few years ago, Winter said.

Winter said there has been an increase in lottery ticket sales since Wednesday's drawing.

The retailer will receive a bonus of 1% of the prize amount, $3,000, for selling the winning ticket.

More than 11,140 other prizes were won in the Lucky Day Lotto drawing. Players won more than $328,182.
