PETERSBURG — Volunteers will be on hand at Happy Trees Agriculture Supply in downtown Petersburg tomorrow to giveaway cannabis seed packs from Jolly Pond Farm.

The seed giveaway event sits in line with Happy Tree’s goal to help people get their hands on seeds that have been difficult to obtain under Virginia’s cannabis laws.

“We’re trying to get seeds into the hands of people who wouldn’t know how to do so otherwise, and may end up having to break the law to do so,” Josiah Ickes, the store’s co-founder said. “We want people to get their seeds safely and legally, and we want them to know we’re available to answer any questions they have about how to grow this plant.”

Auntie Ning’s food truck will be on site providing authentic Filipino food for purchase.

To help newbies start their babies, Happy Trees will also have seed starting supplies available for purchase. A 10% discount will be given as a kick-off to the store’s weekly product pickup services at the Petersburg location starting in February. Customers interested in ordering supplies for delivery will need to call Happy Tree's Richmond store.

Per Virginia law, the seeds will only be given away to those 21+ in age, so future growers must bring an ID and reside in Virginia to obtain a seed packet. Seed pack giveaways will only be done on site. Packets will not be shipped. In conjunction with Virginia state laws, no sales of cannabis will be permitted.

No cannabis flowers, seeds, or clones will be given away at this event. All attendees will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing during the event in accordance with Virginia’s COVID-19 health guidelines.

The event begins at noon at 101 N. Sycamore Street on Jan. 29 and will continue until supplies last.
