Pet of the Week: Learn how to adopt Rocky, 'a dog for all seasons'

The Pet of the Week is Rocky, a male Lab/Boxer who is about 5 years old.

Rocky is a handsome guy with lots of energy to spare! He would be best suited for an active person who will include him in lots of activities, walks, training and play time.

He needs someone who is dog savvy and has training experience.

Rocky loves the kiddie pool and water from the hose in the warm weather and loves the snow in the winter too.

He is a "dog for all seasons." As long as he has his warm coat on in the winter, he likes the snow, but not the cold. He enjoys being out and going for walks and hikes, and then relaxing by your side to enjoy some quiet time.

Rocky is looking for someone who will be a good match for his energy: someone who can include him in lots of activities, walks, and play time.

The Taunton Animal Shelter recommends no young children, as Rocky would be too active for them and can get overly enthusiastic when running and playing. He also has a tendency to sometimes pull on/grab the leash. He will need someone who can work on this.

Rocky will learn quickly with patience, love and understanding. He needs someone who is firm, yet loving. He is a smart boy and just needs someone to point him in the right direction at times.

Using a martingale collar and easy-walk harness makes walking him much easier and much more enjoyable for both of you.

An apartment would not be suitable; Rocky is looking for a home with a fenced yard where he can run and play! Rocky would prefer a home with no cats and would be happiest as the only dog in the home.
