Pet sheep killed in greenhouse fire at Barre farm

BARRE - A fire in greenhouses at Hartman's Herb Farm resulted in the death of pet sheep.

About 1:30 p.m. Thursday, the Fire Department responded to a reported fire at the farm on Old Dana Road, chief Robert Rogowski said.

Three greenhouses were damaged in the blaze, the chief said.

Along with greenhouses, Hartman's Herb Farm has a bed and breakfast, and is a wedding venue. The farm also contains a gift shop and an event venue.

In a post on the farm's Facebook page published late Thursday afternoon, the farm's staff acknowledged the fire and the loss of animals.

"We just wanted to let everyone know that today we did suffer from a greenhouse fire. Everyone is doing okay, we are all just a little shaken up. Unfortunately we did lose some animals," the post read. "We would like to say thank you to everyone who has reached out to our family, and a huge thank you to all of the different fire departments who responded so quickly."
