Pet dog killed in Woodland garage fire
May 18—A small pet dog was killed in a garage fire Tuesday afternoon in Woodland.
Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue units were dispatched at 1:43 p.m. to a report of a garage fire at 212 Springwood St.
Engine 29 from the Woodland station arrived within 3 1/2 minutes to find heavy smoke coming from an attached garage and the attic vents of the residence, according to an agency news release.
The crew stretched a hose line and held the fire until other units arrived.
Firefighters searched the residence and garage, but no one was inside. The family had reportedly left to a store before the fire started, the news release states.
The garage saw significant fire, heat and smoke damage. The residence also had minor smoke damage, according to Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue.
A total of 16 fire personnel — four engines, one ladder truck, five chief officers and a fire investigator — responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The Clark County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
