A person with a gun was taken into custody after a basketball game at Mars Area High School Friday night.

Mars basketball coach Rob Carmody talked to Channel 11 news partner the Tribune-Review about the incident.

“I was literally one or two sentences into my talk when an athletic trainer came running through and yelled, ‘Shut the doors! There’s potentially a gun on campus,’ " Carmody told the Trib.

“Adams Township Police and Mars Area School District’s School Police Officers responded immediately to this incident and apprehended the individual with the weapon,” Mars Area Superintendent Mark Gross said in a statement on the district website.

Gross noted that the individual was not a Mars student and that the investigation is ongoing.

The boys varsity basketball team had just lost a close game to South Fayette when the incident took place.

Players and coaches from both teams briefly sheltered in place inside the building’s lower level after it was reported that someone with a weapon was in the parking lot, the Trib reported.

There were no injuries related to the incident, Gross said.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
