People have a lot of thoughts about the "weird" sex scene in The Time Traveler's Wife
Fans of the original novel have been just a little obsessed with HBO's adaptation of The Time Traveler's Wife since it was released earlier this month. Well, now the Rose Leslie and Theo James series is the subject of a lot of discussion over on Twitter after the most recent episode included a sex scene which fans were absolutely baffled by.
Based on the book of the same name by Audrey Niffenegger, The Time Traveler's Wife, follows Claire Abshire (Leslie), who has had an imaginary friend ever since she was six years old. The friend is a man who can travel through time and often appears in the woods behind her house and tells her stories about the future.
As an adult Claire meets the time traveler she met when she was a child: a man named Henry DeTamble who she has been destined to meet her whole life, but who doesn't recognise her. The pair fall in love and she becomes the time traveler's wife, but, of course that's where the heartbreak begins.
Obviously, if you've read the book or watched the original 2009 film starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana, you'll know the whole thing is a bit of an emotional experience. Which is why fans were *pretty* surprised by one scene in the latest episode of the adaptation.
In the scene Henry explains to Claire how his father discovered he was able to travel through time as a result of a very awkward incident. Through flashbacks Henry explains that as a 16-year-old he travelled back to a recent time in order to perform oral sex on himself (also 16), but right in the middle of it his father walked in to see the two versions of his son in bed together.
Obviously, Twitter had *thoughts*.
