Pensacola man charged with child neglect after Narcan needed to wake him after crash

A 39-year-old Pensacola man was arrested Saturday following a vehicle accident in which he needed to be administered Narcan to regain consciousness.

William Nathan Hawthorne was arrested on charges of neglect of a child, driving under the influence, marijuana possession and drug equipment possession.

Florida Highway Patrol was called to the scene of an accident Saturday at 11 a.m. at Highway 29 and Kingsfield Road. A trooper found Hawthorne unconscious with agonized breathing, his face turning blue. Unable to awaken Hawthorne, the trooper administered Narcan and Hawthorne quickly regained consciousness.

According to FHP, Hawthorne was traveling southbound on Highway 29 with a 6-year-old child in his SUV. A pickup truck was stopped in traffic awaiting a green signal to proceed south when the SUV collided with the trailer hitch at the rear of the pickup.

No one was injured in the collision.

Hawthorne remains in the Escambia County Jail on a $5,500 bond.
