Pennsylvania woman dies after falling into industrial meat grinder at work
A Pennsylvania woman was reportedly killed when she fell into a commercial meat grinder at work on Monday afternoon.
Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. confirmed to ABC News that 35-year-old Jill Greninger died after she fell into the piece of heavy machinery at the Economy Locker Storage Company, likely while she was standing on a set of wheeled stairs.
"This is just a tragedy," Kiessling told the outlet. "She died inside the moving parts of the machine."
One of Kiessling's coworkers allegedly heard strange noises coming from the meat grinder around 11:30 a.m. and went to investigate the cause.
"We talked to the person who found her," Kiessling told ABC News. "He said he heard a noise and went to check on her and found her in the machine. He put the power down and called 911."
Greninger died at the scene, and first responders spent 45 minutes disassembling the meat grinder to remove the victim's body.
It reminds unclear if Greninger "fell in or was pulled in as she was perhaps reaching for something in the grinder," Kiessling told the Williamsport Sun-Gazette. The cause of her death remains under investigation.
