Pennsylvania casinos top $400M in March, shatter monthly revenue record

Apr. 16—Monthly casino revenues in Pennsylvania for the first time topped $400 million in March, according to figures released by the state Gaming Control Board.

Combined gambling revenues totaled more than $403 million, up significantly from the $154 million in revenues seen in March 2020, when non-life-sustaining businesses were forced to shutter due to the covid-19 pandemic.

However, it was still nearly $87 million higher than March 2019, when gambling revenues totaled $316 million.

Of the state's 15 licensed casinos, Parx Casino in Bucks County saw the highest revenue total in March, bringing in about $61.5 million.

Locally, Rivers Casino on Pittsburgh's North Shore saw revenues of $29.5 million in March. Of that, slot machine revenues brought in $20.8 million, with $6.65 million in table games and $2 million from retail and online sports wagering, according to the gaming control board.

At The Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Washington, revenues totaled $20.9 million — with slot revenues of $12.8 million, another $1.8 million from table game and $6.28 million from retail and online sports wagering, data show.

Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin in Fayette County saw revenue totals of $2 million in March.

Live! Casino Pittsburgh, which opened in Hempfield's Westmoreland Mall in November, brought in nearly $8.4 million last month. Of that, $6.9 million came from slot machines, $1.3 million from table games and $88,820 from retail sports wagering.

In casinos across the state, slot machine revenues totaled $199.2 million, followed by $71.3 million from table games and $29.3 million from sports wagers.

Online slot machine revenues brought in $66.4 million, and online table game revenue reached $28.8 million. Video gaming terminal revenue was $3.6 million, with fantasy contests adding $1.8 million last month.

Online poker is the only form of gambling that saw a decrease last month compared to March 2020, dropping more than $730,000, figures show.

Gambling revenues for March topped the previous record of $320.2 million from October.

This year, another record also was set, the gaming control board reported: Combined revenues from January through March exceeded $1 billion in a single yearly quarter.
