Apr. 15—Trafford library to hold book sale

The Trafford Community Public Library will hold a book sale fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 14 and 15 in the parking lot next to the library, 416 Brinton Ave.

Hardback books are $1 and paperbacks and children's books are 50 cents, while a bag of books will cost $5. CDs and DVDs are $1. Gift baskets and flea market items will be available.

Volunteers are helping to keep the library open and are planning to develop new children's reading events on Zoom and Facebook. Live reading events may return this summer.

Police will take back unused medication

Area residents with unwanted and outdated prescription medication can dispose of it with the Penn Township police, who will run a collections center near the Giant Eagle at the Penn Crossing Shopping Center in Harrison City from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 24.

No antibiotics, over-the-counter medications or liquids will be accepted at the collection point, which will be the police department's tactical truck. Those who drop off the medications should practice social distancing.

The Penn Township Police Department and the Penn-Trafford Citizens for Drug Awareness are sponsoring the collection effort, in conjunction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The medications will be turned over to the DEA for proper disposal.

Level Green cleanup planned

Volunteers are being sought for a cleanup effort May 1 in Level Green, in conjunction with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.

The event starts at 9 a.m. is a collaboration among organizations including the Level Green Lions, the Community Womens Club of Level Green, Level Green Fire Department and Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the Level Green Community Building, 123 Murrysville Road. Cleanup assignments along specific roads will be made at that time, according to Bruno Mediate, a Level Green Lions Club spokesman.

There will be an emphasis placed on family participation. Any family wishing to clean a specific roadway can register by sending an email to LevelgreenSign52@gmail.com, and including family members' names and the requested roads. For details, contact Mediate at bmediate@comcast.net.

Bushy Run Lions chicken barbecue

The Bushy Run Lions Club will hold a barbecue chicken dinner fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 25 at the Bushy Run Lions Community Building, Church Street, Claridge.

Dinners are $10 and include half of a barbecued chicken, coleslaw, roll, cookies and drink. Scouts from Troop 239 and 1239 will be assisting at the event. Due to covid 19, dinners will be served take-out only. Drive-thru service is available. Tickets are available from any Lion or by calling 724-757-9959 or 724-744-2028. A limited amount of tickets will be available at the door.
