Penn State snapshot profile: No. 42 Jamari Buddin

Going into the 2022 football season, Nittany Lions Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Penn State roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for James Franklin this season.

Penn State’s linebackers will be a big question for the defense going into the 2022 season, but there are some younger players on the roster who could take some steps forward in their development. One of those players will be Jamari Buddin, a redshort freshman from Michigan who appeared in a small handful of games last season. Here is a snapshot profile of Buddin, who could be one of the top backup options on the roster this fall.

Depth Chart Overview

Jamari Buddin could be one of the first players off the bench to fill in at linebacker this fall once new defensive coordinator [autotag]Manny Diaz[/autotag] settles on his linebacker situation in 2022.

[autotag]Curtis Jacobs[/autotag] is a returning starter at the position and locked into one of the three starting jobs. [autotag]Jonathan Sutherland[/autotag] (pictured, above) has converted from safety to help fill the starting mix at another. The final starting job could be down to [autotag]Tyler Elsdon[/autotag] or [autotag]Kobe King[/autotag], leaving Buddin as a top reserve that could be utilized in certain spots where needed.

Penn State’s depth at linebacker will be questioned by some going into the 2022 season, and justifiably so, but there is youth at the position that will continue to develop. Buddin will be one of those players to monitor moving forward.
