Penn State football snapshot profile: No. 17 Mason Stahl

Going into the 2022 football season, Nittany Lions Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Penn State roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for James Franklin this season.

Next up is Mason Stahl. He played quarterback in high school but is now making the switch to wide receiver. Penn State has a deep receiver room, so Stahl will have plenty to work ahead of him if he wants to play a role in the offense.

He has an interesting story that should be a fun one to follow.

The next player is a quarterback who switched to wide receiver. Stahl made some noise in the ground game as a quarterback in high school, which should translate well with his speed and athleticism.

Depth Chart Overview

It is likely we won’t see Stahl play for his first few years with Penn State. With a deep wide receiver room, Stahl could have an opportunity to make himself known as a practice squad member for his first year or so, as we have seen players do before.

We could also see Stahl make some noise on special teams. His versatility likely won’t be overlooked and special teams is where many players have made a name for themselves.

Penn State has a deep wide receiver room, and Stahl’s versatility and athleticism might help him move his way up the depth chart faster to get more playing time.
