Penn State football snapshot profile: No. 48 Cody Romano

Going into the 2022 football season, Nittany Lions Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Penn State roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for James Franklin this season.

You may not hear his name very much during the season, but redshirt senior Cody Romano is respected as a hard-worker within the program. Romano will likely be having his biggest impact on special teams assignments and on the practice field during the week, making him an overlooked contributor to the program.

Here’s a snapshot profile of Romano entering the 2022 season.

Depth Chart Overview

Matthew O’Haren-USA TODAY Sports

Originally recruited as a safety, Cody Romano is listed as a linebacker for the Penn State defense, although he is more likely to be found on special teams. That was the case last season when Romano made his collegiate debut as a redshirt junior. In three appearances in 2021, Romano played mostly on special teams.

Romano may not be a player that will have a large impact on defense, but his work ethic is deeply respected within the program. On multiple occasions throughout his college career, Romano has been named the team’s Developmental Squad Defensive Player of the Week.

Expect to see Romano continuing to contribute on special teams in 2022 while some of his best work will be done during the week in helping to prepare Penn State for their next game during practices.
