Penn State Injury Report

Matthew OHaren-USA TODAY Sports

Due to some injury and player availability concerns on the offensive line, Penn State will utilize a modified scoring system in an offense-vs-defense spring game. None of the offensive line health concerns figure to be long-lasting to the point where it extends into a concern in the fall. Not right now, at least.

The Penn State defensive line figures to have a number of players worth paying close attention to as the defensive front looks to replace some big shoes with the departures of Arnold Ebiketie and Derrick Tangelo. Unfortunately, one player will be out of action for the spring game, and the entire 2022 season.

Zuriah Fisher suffered a reported knee injury in practice last week, and it has been reported he will be out for the 2022 football season.

3 Things to Watch

Matthew O’Haren-USA TODAY Sports

The Blue-White Game will be the first chance Penn State fans will get to see the defense being coached by new defensive coordinator [autotag]Manny Diaz[/autotag]. The former Miami Hurricanes head coach could have a few new wrinkles to implement in the Penn State defense after years under [autotag]Brent Pry[/autotag], now the head coach at Virginia Tech. But don’t expect to see too many new things from the defense in this particular setting under the new defensive coordinator. Instead, focus on the individual performances on the defensive line by players like [autotag]Adisa Issac[/autotag], [autotag]Coziah Izzard[/autotag], and [autotag]Smith Vilbert[/autotag].

The quarterback situation has drawn plenty of attention this offseason with the return of [autotag]Sean Clifford[/autotag] for a sixth year and the addition of one of the top passers in the Class of 2022, [autotag]Drew Allar[/autotag]. Clifford has about a 99% chance of being Penn State’s starting quarterback at the start of the season but fans will be eager to see what Allar, the expected successor to Clifford down the line, does in his spring game debut.

And speaking of newcomers, Allar could be handing off to his future backfield partner, running back [autotag]Nick Singleton[/autotag]. Penn State’s running game had some incredible struggles in 2021 but the addition of Singleton, the Gatorade National High School Player of the Year for 2021, has fans excited about the future of the running game… if the offensive line will allow for it to prosper.

Weather Outlook

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

It can be tricky figuring out how to dress for the Blue-White Game. Such is life in Happy Valley in the middle of April. And if you are planning on attending the Blue-White Game, you may want to pack a poncho just in case.

The weather forecast for Penn State’s Blue-White Game on Saturday calls for a high of 62 degrees with a 55% chance of precipitation at noon eastern.

But any real threat of rain is reduced by the start of the spring game with cloudy skies and possible passing showers on the forecast for the duration of the game, with temperatures ranging from 57 to 62 degrees during the course of the Blue-White Game.
