Update: Man killed running into traffic on Highway 41 in Fresno, CHP says. Lanes now open

A section of Highway 41 was at a full closure Wednesday morning in Fresno after a pedestrian was killed by a car, the California Highway Patrol said.

The collision happened about 5:45 a.m. north of the McKinley Avenue on-ramp headed north, CHP said, and the closure lasted nearly three hours.

A 25-year-old Kerman man was headed north in the area in a 2016 Toyota Scion TC when a pedestrian standing on the center median ran into traffic, according to CHP.

The driver was unable to avoid a crash and struck the man on foot, CHP said. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was taken to Saint Agnes Medical Center with minor injuries, according to CHP. He was not suspected of being impaired.

Officers could not say if the pedestrian was impaired by drugs or alcohol, CHP said, and a toxicology report was pending.

Caltrans tweeted that the northbound side was at a full closure about 7 a.m. and traffic was being diverted off at McKinley Avenue. There was no estimated time for re-opening then.

All of the lanes were re-opened about 8:30 a.m., according to CHP officer Shasta Tollefson.
