PCM wrestling finishes ninth at DCG Mustang Invitational

Dec. 6—GRIMES — One of the toughest wrestling tournaments PCM competes in every season is the first one most years.

The Mustangs face some of the strongest competition they will see until the state tournament when they compete in the Andy Davidson DCG Mustang Invitational.

This season, PCM entered nine grapplers into the field and placed ninth in the 14-team field with 72 points on Saturday.

The top finisher was Donovan Nickelson, who was third at 182 pounds. He started and ended his day with wins by fall and lost 10-7 in the semifinals.

Kaden Clark (285) and Remington Fry (126) both finished fourth in their respective weight classes. They each won their opening match but lost their final two.

Tucker Wheeler finished fifth at 138, Hewitt Brinegar placed sixth at 145, Joel Greiner was seventh at 220 and Jeffrey McDanel ended up eighth at 152.

Wheeler lost his first match of the day but won three straight on the backside to take fifth. Two of his wins were by pin.

Brinegar was 2-2 in his bracket. He started and ended with losses but registered wins by medical forfeit and pin in between.

Greiner opened his tournament with back-to-back losses but won by fall to end his day. McDanel's lone win came by fall.

Sawyer Bouwkamp (132) and Finn Wilson (160) also competed but did not place. Bouwkamp's only win came by a 6-4 decision and Wilson was 0-2.
