PCM boys win HOIC golf championship

May 7—STATE CENTER — Three days after shooting a 373 in very windy conditions, PCM's boys golf team got better weather and rebounded with an impressive 334 during the Heart of Iowa Conference tournament on Tuesday.

The Mustangs were 11 shots better than Nevada and Greene County at the top of the standings as they claimed the HOIC team championship at the par 72 Lincoln Valley Golf Course.

"It was a good today. The team played well," PCM boys golf coach Mike Cardin said. "It was a nicer day weather-wise and we are starting to benefit from some of our short-game efforts."

Andrew Mitchell was the runner-up medalist with a 79 and Gatlin Boell finished third overall with an 80.

The other two scorers were Grant Van Veen and Brayden Berger. Van Veen shot an 86 and finished 11th, while Berger carded an 89 in 14th. Gabe Lanphier (91) and Brian Nicholson (94) both tallied non-counting scores.

PCM's 334 won the tournament. Nevada and Greene County tied for second with 345s and the rest of the seven-team field included host West Marshall (354), Roland-Story (360), South Hamilton (370) and Saydel (413).

Nevada's Caden Jones was the meet medalist after firing a 3-over-par 75.
