Patrick Mahomes salutes the team’s fans: ‘Chiefs Kingdom, we roll together’

The CBS Sports cameras focused on quarterback Joe Burrow in the Bengals huddle at one point during Sunday’s AFC Championship Game, and it was clear he was yelling.

Burrow wasn’t angry, he was simply trying to tell his teammates the play call amid the din of Chiefs fans at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

During his weekly spot on KCSP (610 AM), Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was asked about the fans bringing the noise to the game.

“They were rocking, man, and it makes a huge difference,” Mahomes said. “With them being that loud and causing havoc for the other team, it gives us energy too. Whenever stuffs not going well on the offense and we have that crowd behind us, it helps us keep things in perspective and be who we are and know that we have all of Kansas City and all of the Chiefs’ Kingdom energy behind us.

“I love playing at Arrowhead. It’s a special place.”

Mahomes also said he believes the support from the fans is one reason why the team has been so successful.

The Chiefs have won seven straight AFC West titles, been host to five consecutive AFC Championship Games and will be playing in the Super Bowl for the third time in four seasons.

In short, this is the greatest period in the franchise’s history.

“I think Chiefs Kingdom, we roll together, everybody,” Mahomes said. “And we appreciate the support as much as they appreciate us. And so it’s a collective group, man, and having this advantage, this home-field advantage, is the reason why we’re in the position that we’re in today and that we’ve been able to go to Super Bowls and enjoy this success. We do it all together and it takes everybody.”
