Parrot 'Loving Every Second' of Free Flight in Strong Scottish Wind

A parrot free flying in high winds in Lomond Hills, Scotland, on August 1, loved every second of it, according to its owner.

In footage recorded by Nash Mayr of Soaring Wings Training, Denali the parrot can be seen flying amid blustery Scottish weather, sometimes blown back by wind blasts, sometimes cruising the gusts.

“Free flight is growing more and more popular within the parrot community,” Mayr told Storyful, explaining that Denali had been free flying for over four years.

“He’s loving every second of it. We challenge him in new locations and have flown all over the UK, though we typically just stick to flying in Scotland.”

However, Mayr warned that the exercise should “never be attempted without a mentor.”

“Free flying without professional help results in parrots getting lost way too often. Denali is not just a free flighted bird, he is a member of our family. His health and well being will always come first.”

Soaring Wings Training was established in April 2021, with the slogan “Every bird deserves a chance to fly.” Mayr told Storyful: “Our one aim is to help captive birds around the world get the proper care, diet, exercise and mental stimulation they need.” Credit: Nash Mayr via Storyful
