Parks Department to hold Easter Egg Hunt in April

Mar. 8—It may look a bit different this year, but the hunt will be on.

Canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, Danielle Terhune, recreation director of the Logansport Parks Department, said it was high-time for families to get together and enjoy an outdoor extravaganza. After all, she said, "Everybody loves a treasure hunt."

And that's why the Parks Department has opted to hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt this year. While there won't be any mass gatherings or mad dashes to collect as many eggs as possible, families will still have a chance to spend time together and find a prize.

Terhune said she hopes the event will be an opportunity for families to have some fun. "It's a way for families and kids to get out together and participate in something," she said, adding that the hunt will be arranged differently.

Instead of only gathering at Riverside Park, there will be 30 eggs with six golden ones spread out over Riverside, Spencer, Huston, Muehlhausen, and Fairview parks. Utilizing the various parks is a way to help social distance, she said.

Registration is not required, and families may participate at any of the five parks between the hours of 8 a.m. Saturday, April 3rd, and continue until the parks close at 10 p.m. Sunday, April 4th. Each egg will contain a slip of paper informing the person of which sponsor's egg has been found.

Sponsors include Amelio's on the River, B&K West, Black Dog Coffee/Legacy Outfitters, Boardwalk Café, Braves Pancake House, Cass County Arts Alliance, Cass County Roosters, Cass County Sheriff Ed Schroder, Dep. Mayor Jacob Pomasl, Logansport Firefighters Local 470, Logansport Parks & Recreation Department, Logansport Police Department, Foppers Pet Treat Bakery, Mayor Chris Martin, McCord's Do-It-Best, Modern Real Estate, Mr. Happy Burger, Sycamore Drive-In, The Nest, and U-Know Pizza.

According to the Parks Department, there is a limit of one gift per household.

"We will be keeping track," assured Terhune.

Individuals who find a winning egg on Saturday can pick up their gifts between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. that day at the parks office at 1701 Dividend Drive. Otherwise, gifts can be picked up between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the parks office. Gifts must be picked up no later than Friday, April 16.

Gifts will not be revealed until claimed at the office.

Terhune said this is a great opportunity for the community to be involved, from the sponsors to the participants. "We didn't get to do this last year and we knew we had to come up with a way to have it now," she said. "We couldn't let two years in a row go by, so hopefully this will bring people together to do something that we haven't been able to do in a while."
