Park Square has free outdoor 'Summer Sunlight' performances starting July 22

Jun. 24—Park Square Theatre is working with the St. Paul Downtown Alliance to welcome workers and residents back downtown with a series of 10 free lunchtime and happy hour performances weekdays starting July 22 on West Seventh Place (the pedestrian mall outside Park Square).

Concerts and theater performances include Ready Freddie — A Queen Experience, Full Circle Theater Company's "The Mikado," music from Annie and the Bang Bang and the Champagne Drops, TaikoArts Midwest and an old-time radio show by the Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society.

Seating will be limited, so audiences are invited to bring lawn chairs. The Summer Sunlight series runs through Sept. 23. Music will continue into the evenings with acoustic sets on the nearby Loon Cafe's patio on Thursday evenings throughout the summer.

The St. Paul Downtown Alliance announced in May that following an investment of $1.5 million donated by major partners such as Securian, Bremer Bank and the city of St. Paul, a coalition of business advocates is sprucing up the streets for 300 entertainment events that will roll out through the fall.

Park Square will be announcing their full reopening plans later in the summer, according to a news release from the theater. Plans include shows that were canceled due to the pandemic, including a remount of the 2018 sold-out show "Marie and Rosetta." Park Square's partner theater, SteppingStone Theatre for Youth, is producing "Madagascar — A Musical Adventure Jr." on West Seventh Place from July 27-Aug. 8.
