Parades, ceremonies and more near you: How the South Shore will mark Memorial Day
South Shore residents and communities will observe Memorial Day by honoring those who died while serving in the U.S. armed forces. Here are the Memorial Day weekend parades, ceremonies and other events scheduled in local communities:
Braintree
A ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 29, in Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West St., in the garden of honor.
Cohasset
The Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 118, is raising money for local veterans, the Cohasset Food Pantry, Boston’s Children’s Hospital and other charities. People can buy a sponsorship or a flag to take home. The buyer can choose what sentiment will be inscribed on the flagpole. Each flag is $40. . A Healing Field dedication ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at 98 Summer St.

Halifax
The town will host a Memorial Day parade, celebration and remembrance at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 30, on Plymouth Street. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at Halifax Country Club. The parade will proceed along Plymouth Street to town hall and conclude at town hall with a ceremony.

Hanover
A Memorial Day Parade will start at 10 a.m. at Saint Mary's Church, 392 Hanover St., and continue to the Veterans Memorial for an 11 a.m. ceremony.
A picnic will follow at Forge Pond Park, where there will be food and family entertainment from 1 to 4 p.m. The American Legion at 104 King St. will also host a meet and greet from noon to 3 p.m.
Before the parade, Boy Scout Troop 28 will host a Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast at Saint Mary's from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for children 12 years old and under.
Hanson
The town's annual Memorial Day Parade will start at 9 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Indian Head School on Liberty Street with a lowering of the flag, the playing of taps and an honor guard salute. It will proceed past town hall, turn left on High Street and conclude at Fern Hill Cemetery. There will be a closing ceremony. The events are expected to conclude at about 10 a.m.
The ceremony will be shown on the Whitman Hanson Community Access channel. Photos and videos of personal Memorial Day activities can be submitted to whca.tv/memorial-day-2022 to be included in the presentation.
The Hanson Senior Center will have a van drive in the parade. Veterans are invited to a Memorial Day breakfast beforehand and then welcome to take a seat of honor in the van.

Hingham
Hingham's department of veterans' services and veterans' council will hold a Memorial Day observance at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Hingham Town Hall, 210 Central St. Seats will be provided for veterans and their families, the Hingham High School Band and senior citizens. Other attendees are asked to bring chairs.
Sgt. Thomas M. Lester will be the principal speaker. The town clerk will read the names of Hingham veterans who have died in the last year and a wreath will be placed.

Veterans and their families are invited to a buffet-style luncheon following the ceremony at the Grand Army Memorial Hall, 358 Main St. It will be catered by Hart Catering, of Rockland.
If it rains, , the ceremony will be relocated to Sanborn Auditorium inside Hingham Town Hall, 210 Central St. For more information, visit hingham-ma.gov or call veterans' services at 781-741-1440.

Hull
The town's Memorial Day ceremony and parade will begin at 9:15 a.m. Monday, May 30, and travel from the high school, 180 Main St., to the cemetery on Duck Lane. There will be a ceremony at 10 a.m. at the cemetery. For more information, visit town.hull.ma.us.

Marshfield
Marshfield will hold its Memorial Day parade at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 30. Participants will march from Library Plaza, turn left onto Ocean Street and pause at the town green at town hall before proceeding down Route 139 to Veterans Memorial Park for a ceremony at 11 a.m. For more information, visit marshfield-ma.gov or call 781-834-5576.
Pembroke
The town's Memorial Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, near Keegan Realty on Center Street and march to First Church at 105 Center St. The parade will be followed by a ceremony featuring the high school band. Former Marine and Pembroke Veterans' Agent David McPhillips will speak.
Plymouth
Plymouth will host its annual Memorial Day parade at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 30. Those in the parade will gather at 9 a.m. on Memorial Drive before walking toward the water and turning left onto Water Street, left onto South Park Street and left onto Court Street.
Opening remarks, a reading of the Gettysburg Address and the placing of a wreath at the World War II Memorial will take place in front of Memorial Hall. The parade will go south on Route A, stopping at the Korean and Vietnam memorials, the Town Brook Bridge World War I Memorial and the training green for wreath ceremonies. There will be a sea dedication ceremony at the state pier.
The Royal Canadian Legionnaires of Georgetown, Ontario, will be honored. Ceremonies will be at 10:30 a.m. in Memorial Hall in case of poor weather.

Quincy
The city will host a Memorial Day parade starting 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 30, followed by a ceremony to honor those lost. The parade will start at Quincy Credit Union, 100 Quincy Ave., and proceed through Quincy Center, ending at Mount Wollaston Cemetery for an observance. Chief Warrant Officer Nick Lavery will be the guest speaker. He is an active-duty member of the Army Special Forces.

Rockland
The town's Memorial Day ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the Rockland Veterans Memorial.
Scituate
The town will hold its annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony Monday, May 30, beginning at 8 a.m. A flotilla will leave from the harbormaster’s office for the throwing of a wreath in honor of those lost at sea. The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. in front of town hall, 600 Chief Justice Cushing Highway. It will follow First Parish Road to Lawson Common, where a ceremony will begin at 11:15 a.m.

Weymouth
The town will hold its Korean War Memorial ceremony in Jackson Square at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 30. A parade will leave from Jackson Square and travel to town hall at about 10:15 a.m.
