From her often chaotic relationships to her memorable TV performances and animal rights activism, Pamela Anderson is known for many things. But, perhaps most notably, Anderson is known for her appearance. It's no wonder then, that she holds the record for starring on the most Playboy covers, ever.

But, more than three decades on from her debut in the pages of Playboy, Anderson has spoken out about the pressure she's faced to maintain her appearance – and, why she's no longer choosing to do so.

"I think we’re so much more beautiful the way that we are," the former Baywatch actor told the Wall Street Journal ahead of the release of her much-anticipated memoir: Love, Pamela. "No one wants to hear about natural beauty from me," the 55-year-old went on, presumably referencing the cosmetic procedures she has had, which include a breast augmentation and botox, among others. "But I’m not afraid of getting older. I kind of like that I’m not chasing youth," she added.

Speaking on the topic of cosmetic surgery previously, Anderson told W Magazine that she's no longer "into all that stuff."

"I actually like ageing," she said. "I have great older female role models in my life, including my amazing mum, who have glitz, glamour and all sorts of fun. Getting older isn't the end. I know I have so much to look forward to."

Commenting on Anderson's iconic appearance, and her transformation to replicate it for her role in Disney's Pam & Tommy series, Lily James described the process – which involved getting up at 3am every day for a four hour makeup session and putting on a chest plate, fake tan and a wig – as "liberating".

"I've never done anything where I look very different from myself before. And I'd really like to continue in this vein, because I felt there was something very freeing and liberating in it," she told The Mirror last year. "There was a bravery that came from that. A courage that came from… disappearing."

"I'd really enjoyed the physicality and the sensuality, even down to the long fingernails. There was just so much character to hold on to — it was really thrilling."

Love, Pamela is on sale now, and Netflix's Pamela, A Love Story documentary is also now available to stream.
