Pacers’ Bennedict Mathurin nominated for Player of the Week

Indiana Pacers rookie Bennedict Mathurin was among the players nominated to be the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Nov. 21-27, the NBA announced on Monday.

Mathurin averaged 18 points, 3.8 rebounds and one steal on 42% shooting from the field and 38.9% shooting from 3-point range in four games. He scored at least 20 points three times as the Pacers posted a 2-2 record on the week.

Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo won the award.

Mathurin is now averaging 18.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists on 42.1% shooting from 3-point range in 19 games this season. He is second among all rookies in scoring and is one of two first-year players with multiple 30-point games (Paolo Banchero).

With Mathurin in the fold, the Pacers are fourth in the Eastern Conference with an 11-8 record. He has played a crucial role off of the bench for head coach Rick Carlisle and leads all reserve players in the NBA with 358 total points.

Indiana returns to action on Monday versus the Los Angeles Lakers.
