Outlaws dispatch No. 1 Purcell; Lady Outlaws fall in game

Jan. 12—After placing third in the Idabel Tournaments, the Lady Outlaws and Outlaws battled with a tough test in Purcell with the ladies falling 52-35 and the Outlaws dispatching the No. 1 in 3A to win 59-39.

Lady Dragons take early lead and never look back

The first two buckets of the game for Purcell ended up being long range three point shots and the third one set the tone as Purcell took the early lead in the first quarter.

Erin Doughty and Kently Davis tried to keep the Lady Outlaws in the game. They had all seven first quarter points, but the Lady Dragons took the early 13-7 lead after one quarter of play.

Purcell held the lead in the second quarter by outscoring Marlow 12-7 with baskets from Whitney Wade and Kendall Kizarr having five of the seven points for the Lady Outlaws.

Allie Haile got her first points of the game by hitting two free throws after going 1-for-8 on the season at the charity stripe. Still, Purcell led 25-14 at halftime.

Marlow's offense got going in the third quarter. Wade hit two shots and got the and-one opportunity on a foul midway through the third stanza.

Haile and Doughty hit three point shots during the third quarter of play, allowing Marlow to outscore Purcell 12-11. Still, Purcell held the lead 36-26 after three quarters of play.

It was all free throws from the Lady Outlaws in the final quarter of play. Wade went a perfect 4-for-4 and Davis went 5-for-6 from the line. They had all nine fourth quarter points for Marlow.

Wade led the scoring with 12 for the Lady Outlaws while Davis had nine and Doughty had six to make the top three scoring threats as the attention turned to the boys' game next.

Outlaws snap 11-game losing skid to Purcell

Hitting the court without their lone senior in Avrey Payne due to an injury might have looked like a problem, however two freshmen stepped up to fill the void and end an 11-game losing streak to Purcell.

Purcell came in with a perfect 10-0 record on the year and jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two buckets before Marlow got a massive three point shot from sophomore Parker Boyles.

The lead went back-and-forth several times in the first quarter, however Mason Holding tied the game up at the end of the stanza with two free throws to make it 17-17 heading into the second period of play.

Holding started the second quarter with a bucket and a foul to convert the three point play to take the 20-19 lead with one of the freshman starting to step off the bench.

Brendan Brooks hit two buckets in a row to build the lead to 24-19 when Blayd Harris hit a three to continue adding on as the second quarter proved to be a big one for Marlow.

Kaden Harris also hit a bucket before Blayd Harris hit two free throws to complete a 14-0 run that put the Outlaws up by 12 when the first bucket from Purcell made it a 10-point game at halftime.

A three bucket from Purcell started the second half and cut the lead to seven, however another freshman in Hudson Morgan helped the Outlaws start another run that proved to be all Marlow needed.

Morgan hit a bucket to start the Marlow offense in the third quarter before Boyles hit a basket to extend the lead to 11 before a free throw put it back to a 10-point lead.

A three ball from Holding put the lead to 13. Boyles then pushed it back to 13 after Purcell hit two free throws to make it 40-27 in favor of the Outlaws.

Blayd Harris hit a three to make it a 16-point lead before a two bucket from Brooks and Morgan got the lead to 20 points as the third quarter ended.

The fourth quarter started with two baskets from Boyles and Kaden Harris to push the second run of the game to 13-0 before a bucket from Purcell fell to put Marlow's lead to 51-29.

Marlow and Purcell tied in the fourth stanza. Both scored 12 points apiece. The victory, however, went to the Outlaws, who won 59-39.

The Outlaws had four in double figures to get coach Kirk Harris his 400th victory as the boys coach for Marlow High School.

Boyles led the way with 19, while Blayd Harris had 11, Holding had 10 and Brooks had 10 with Kaden Harris having six and Morgan finishing out with four as the scoring threats for Marlow High School.

While the Lady Outlaws fell to 9-3 on the season, the Outlaws improved to 10-2 on the year and will now travel for their next game on the schedule.

Marlow will play at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 13 at Washington High School with the Lady Outlaws playing first followed by the boys around 8 p.m. Jan. 13 at Washington High School.
