"The secondary objective findings in this study, of a quicker decrease in infectious virus among individuals with early COVID-19 treated with molnupiravir, are promising," said William Fischer, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, in a statement from the companies. The scenes are seared in the memory of the Rev. Ammar Altony Yako: A church that for decades has been the pride of the town of Qaraqosh, a center for Christian life in Iraq, stood badly scarred. Yako saw it in 2016 when Qaraqosh was liberated from more than two years of Islamic State group rule. Scrawled on a wall was the proclamation, the "Islamic State will remain.”
A group of 11 Hong Kong pro-democracy activists accused of subversion will stay in jail for at least another five days while judges consider whether to release them on bail, a court said Saturday. Hong Kong traditionally grants bail for non-violent offenses but the new law says bail cannot be granted unless a judge believes the defendant “will not continue to commit acts endangering national security.”
Mar. 6—A Hometown restaurant recently brought back a piece — rather, a slice — of the past when it added an old-time area favorite to its menu. And since Two Kings Pizzeria unveiled its version of pizza from the former Vitale's Restaurant, people can't seem to get enough. "It's been fantastic. There are quite a few people from around here who remember it," restaurant general manager Joe Benny ...

"I think in those last four minutes we were able to keep our poise and not allow multiple things to snowball," said Dieterich head coach Josh Krumwiede. "We fought. It was tough and we had to grind out possessions and I'm proud of them ...
Mar. 6—OXFORD — Granville County school board members have their eyes on reducing the length of the board's six-year terms. The current term is unusual because a four-year term of office is the "default" for school boards in state law and what most school districts in North Carolina have at this point, said Eva DuBuisson, the Granville board's attorney. About a year ago, a proposal was brought ...

Democrats in the U.S. Senate forged ahead with President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief plan early on Saturday, turning back Republican attempts to modify the package in a marathon session that had begun the prior day. With Republicans united in opposition, Democrats who narrowly control the chamber must keep all 50 of their members on board in order to pass the package, as they hope to do this weekend. Progress ground to a halt for more than 11 hours as Democrats negotiated a compromise on unemployment benefits to satisfy centrists, chiefly Senator Joe Manchin, who worried the massive package might overheat the economy.

An attempt to get U.N. Security Council approval for a statement calling for an end to violence in Ethiopia’s embattled Tigray region and to spotlight the millions in need of humanitarian assistance was dropped Friday night after objections from India, Russia and especially China, U.N. diplomats said. The press statement would have been the first by the U.N.’s most powerful body on the Tigray crisis, which is entering its fourth month. Fierce fighting reportedly continues between Ethiopian and allied forces and those supporting the now-fugitive Tigray leaders who once dominated Ethiopia’s government and alarm is growing over the fate of Tigray’s 6 million people.
