OSU Lima holds open house

Jan. 20—LIMA — Ohio State University at Lima held its first open house of 2023 on Friday. Prospective students were able to tour the campus and explore majors. Students heard from the college readiness coordinator and the First Generation One Learning Community.

Bryan Albright, Assistant Dean of Engagement said, "These are prospective students. Some of them have applied, some of them have been admitted. Others, this is their first campus visit; they are thinking about Ohio State Lima but haven't applied yet. So this is an opportunity for them to learn more about Ohio State Lima and the college process."

Students were given information that might help them in deciding if the Lima campus is a good fit. There are thirteen degrees that can be completed on the Lima campus. A total of 200 degrees may be completed with a connection to the main campus in Columbus. On the Lima campus the faculty to students ratio is 18 to 1. Tuition is $8,944 and over one million dollars in scholarship money is available.

There were admissions counselors as well as representatives sharing information about various forms of financial aid. Parents were able to ask questions that their student may not yet have thought of.

Jeremy Scoles was present with his daughter Samantha, who is a senior at Bluffton High School. Jeremy has a daughter who is in her freshman year at OSU Lima. Scoles said,"She came here just trying to figure out what to do with life. You don't have to have it all figured out."

Samantha was interested in the education program, which is one of the degrees that can be completed on the Lima campus.

One of the presentations focused on getting ready for college. It explained what high school juniors and seniors should be doing at this time to be ready for classes after high school. Another presentation dealt with students who are first-generation college attendees. Of this year's freshman class 43.5% are first-generation attendees. The Lima campus has a support program to assist these students in their educational endeavors.

The open house ended with a bit of competitive trivia about information that was shared on the tour. Winners took home some Ohio State paraphernalia.
